Baneblade! Plus Gaming and Painting Progress

Image
Hello one and all. Long time no post again, but I intend to update much now often now given the changes that have occurred in my gaming life, namely that I'm actually gaming! I've recently gone from being a hobby painter to playing games, and it's amazing what a difference it's made to my overall painting work ethic. I finally went to a local gaming club and dipped a toe in with Warcry, which I found really fun. So I picked up the Corvus Cabal warband, although it was close between them and the Splintered Fang. I painted the Corvus Cabal in a week! The fastest I've ever painted a group of nine miniatures to a decent standard. I gave them the name the Birds of Paradise, giving them a brighter colour scheme than the GW standard. I gave all of the gang members names based on the taxonomic names of various birds of paradise, which fits thematically as they're related to the Corvus family of the crows and ravens etc. The bird that accompanies the gang is the Jav...

Roman progress

Image
Had a good day today, I've got my command for my cohort nearly done and should finish them tomorrow. The signifer's standard broke while I was painting it so I've had to do a very fiddly bit of pinning to get it back together but it should hold. A few more highlights for the bear furs and finish the standard off and they should be all good!

Dark Angel progress and Victrix Early Imperial Romans

Image
Hi all. I've made some progress with my Dark Angels and started a side project as an attempt to prevent the Dark Angels from burning me out. My painting room is out of action at the moment but my current setup in the dining room is actually making me rethink my layout upstairs! Here's where I'm at now : It's a pretty comfy table to sit at, definitely better for my posture than my usual old computer desk. So first up the Dark Angels. I got an eight man tactical squad finished, just need some basing applying when my painting room is back in order. I'm pretty pleased with the overall look, edge highlighting is getting tons easier for me now. I've also started on the Dark Vengeance marines, with three bikes getting near finished and I've started base coating the Deathwing too. I'm enjoying painting my marines but at certain points the Ravenwing irritated me, particularly painting the white areas. I figured maybe another project to run conc...

Appendicitis!

This blog is rapidly becoming a health blog rather than a painting blog! I was meant to be going to Warhammer Fest with a mate yesterday but instead I spent my day recovering from an appendecectomy (which is apparently the correct English spelling). But every cloud has a silver lining, although I feel like shit at the moment it means I've got at least two weeks off work to paint! Shouldn't think I'll get much done until I can sit up comfortably, which may be a few days. Anywho, if they don't let me out today I'm kicking off.

Dark Angels army begun!

Image
Since last post I've decided to try to build a Warhammer 40k army again. I'm struggling to motivate myself to paint individual models with no backstory or purpose, so I think the aim to collect and paint a 1500-2000 point army should give me some focus. I previously tried to collect Imperial Guard but I think the problem there was that they were my original army when I was a teenager, so to me they felt like nothing new. I've decided instead to collect Space Marines, specifically Dark Angels. I'm hoping they'll be relatively simple to paint, but still interesting and with scope for more complex paintjobs on character models. I started by painting up some tactical marines I had lying around, I found edge highlighting neatly a bit tricky, but they looked OK. I then painted some company veterans, seen below in current wip phase. The Dark Angels in particular appealed to me because of their checkered past. I can't see myself collecting a Chaos army seeing as...

WIP barbarian king, got the flu.

Image
Hi all, unfortunately not finished anything this week and I've been full of flu the last few days. I'm going to start updating on Sundays even if I've done bugger all just to get into the habit really. I did make a start on this barbarian hero/king earlier in the week. He's an awesome figure and I'm looking forward to doing more on him. I've got no idea who the manufacturer is, I can't find anything like it on the internet and the scale is quite large, more 32mm than 28mm I'd say. Hopefully I'll pull my finger out and finish him next week! Cheers!

Sold my first painted mini!

Almost forgot, I painted Games Workshop's Inquisitor Greyfax as an experiment to see whether I could make a little spending money off my hobby. I'd seen her sell for good prices on eBay so I had a quick go at it, copying the box art to maximise the appeal and made a healthy profit. Nothing too mental, but when you enjoy the process and it's just for spending money it seems a nice little earner! I was pretty pleased with how she turned out and I really enjoyed painting a model that I wouldn't have painted for my own sake. Hopefully her new owner in Hawaii is pleased with the paint job!
